Is your current coffee so bitter and just not doing it for you? Do you want to switch to something that is not only delicious but also great for the environment? Well, you’re in luck! Look no further than these best reusable Nespresso capsules. However, there is a chance that you might be a little confused as to why there are the best. With so many coffee capsule options, it’s easy to get lost. I’ll help you out 🙂
What are the benefits of reusable Nespresso capsules?
1. Environmentally friendly
This is great for environmentally conscious coffee drinkers. Instead of throwing away an empty pod each and every time, you have these reusable capsules that you can use.
2. Budget-friendly
All of us know how great the taste of Nespresso is, but the machine can be a bit pricey, and the capsules can be expensive. With reusable coffee pods, you don’t have to pay for all those capsules, you just get to enjoy the coffee that you love without spending tons of money.
3. Last a long time
You can use reusable Nespresso capsules for weeks, months, or even years.
4. Quality coffee
They’ll still deliver the same quality of coffee that you get from a disposable capsule. Your coffee is 100% freshly ground, so the quality is almost guaranteed.
3 Things To Consider Before Your Purchase
1. The Original Line vs The Vertuo Line
Just like disposable Nespresso capsules, reusable coffee pods are not universal. If your Nespresso machine is the Original Line, then you will need to purchase a reusable pod for the Original Line. On the other hand, reusable Nespresso capsules for Vertuo Line should be used for Vertuo Line machines only.
2. Capsule Material
Reusable Nespresso capsules are generally made out of plastic or stainless steel and have a recycling symbol on the bottom of them. The recycling symbol that these pods have is usually a triangle with a circle and a picture of a recycling arrow inside of it. These reusable coffee pods need to be sorted into the correct recyclable container in order for them to be recycled.
Stainless steel pods are food-grade and safer than plastic pods considering the use of hot water during the brewing process. Having said that, plastic pods are also food-grade and 100% BPA-free, so it can be still safe to be included in your option.
3. Type of Lids
There are 2 main types of lids for reusable Nespresso capsules: aluminium foil lids and stainless steel lids
The benefit of aluminium foil lids is that they are adherent and can produce higher pressure than stainless steel ones. This means you can brew fully rich coffee as it will produce thick and creamy crema. However, the drawback of aluminium foil lids is that you need to buy them regularly as they are meant to be single-use only.

The 9 Best Reusable Nespresso Capsules
SEAL POD Reusable Nespresso Capsules
These stainless steel reusable coffee capsules are a great option for any Nespresso Original Line owner. I love the fact that this kit includes 2 pods and covers to store so that you can use them later without losing freshness.
What’s included:
- 2 stainless steel capsules
- 120 + extra 100 aluminium foil sticker lids
- 2 fresh covers for you to fill with ground coffee and keep fresh for later use
- 1 scoop that can be conveniently used as a tamper
- 2 extra O-rings
- 1 pack of coffee samples to get an idea of which grind is the best to use
Pros:
- Stainless steel pods – Stainless steel is a much safer material than plastic when brewing coffee in hot water. Although plastic reusable Nespresso capsules are considered to be 100% BPA1 free, they cannot beat the stainless steel for being safe for our health.
- Environmentally friendly – These stainless pods can be used for many years. You can reduce the waste significantly compared to using disposable Nespresso coffee capsules.
- Budget-friendly – Disposable capsules are more expensive because you pay for convenience. This means that reusable coffee pods are less expensive due to the more processes involved in brewing coffee. You won’t be going back to disposal pods once you figure out how much money you can save with reusable coffee pods.
- Quality coffee – Aluminium sticker lids ensure building up high pressure when brewing, which can produce optimal coffee that you will enjoy.
Cons:
- These reusable pods are compatible with Nespresso Original Line only.
- You will have to buy new aluminium foil lids when you run out.
- The pods are smaller, which means the amount of ground coffee they can hold can be less than the disposable capsules. With that being said, you can simply double the number of pods to use for your coffee 🙂
How to use:
- Fill the capsule with a full scoop of fine ground coffee (espresso grind)
- Gently press it down with the bottom of the scoop (now it’s a tamper!)
- Add another half a scoop of coffee or so depending on the space you can see inside the pod
- Gently and evenly tamp down the ground coffee again
- Remove any excess grinds from the rim of the pod to ensure the foil lid properly sticks
- Seal the capsule with the sticker lid
- Set it in your Nespresso Original Line machine and it’s ready to brew

My-Cap’s Silicone Caps, Lids and Filters
This 3 pack can be perfect if you want to reduce waste and own a Nespresso Vertuo Line machine. Great for people who are after something unique! It is different from other reusable coffee pods that I have recommended because it is made of silicone with BPA free and food-grade. I still prefer stainless steel ones, but it is totally up to you.
What’s included:
- 3 reusable silicone caps & lid
- 100 filters
- instruction manual (This is a real bonus as most of the reusable capsule kits don’t include it!)
Pros:
- You may find fewer coffee particles in your coffee compared to foil lids.
- It comes with filters that will eliminate cafestol (a cholesterol-elevating compound present in coffee beans).
- The silicone lids are air-tight, so you can prepare the pods in advance.
Cons:
- You will need the original Nespresso coffee capsules, to begin with.

- It may take some practice until you get used to using the pods.
How to use:
- Fill the clean and dry capsule with a scoop of fine-ground coffee
- Tamp gently so as not to overpack
- Place a filter over the coffee ( I highly recommend using a filter to minimise coffee particles in a cup.)
- Cover with a cap with care and make sure it’s evenly secured (For later use, seal the capsule with the silicone lid.)
- Place the capsule in your Nespresso machine to brew
How to clean reusable capsules
- To begin with, you need to wait till the capsules cool down
- Remove them from the machine
- Get rid of all the coffee grounds by turning the capsule over and tapping it on a hard surface carefully
- Wash the reusable capsules with hot water and a mild detergent or dish soap
- Dry the capsule completely after washing
- To prevent odours you may want to pour some boiling water or run a little dish soap over the top of the capsules
Final Thoughts
The reusable coffee capsules are environmentally friendly (which is so important) and will allow you to enjoy the ease of single-serving coffees. My tips for you are:
- Use good quality coffee beans – freshly roasted and ground
- Choose dark roast and fine grinds
